August Cooking
Since August is my birthday month, I decided to have the professionals bake me a birthday cake. Our local bakery, Wuollet’s, made me a cake decorated with frosting bugs and bees mimicking the pattern in my favorite Scalamandre fabric.
July Floral
Although sunflowers can bloom all summer long, I always think of Sunflowers in August. Sunflowers are considered to be one of the fastest growing plants, they are a good choice for attracting birds to your garden, and the flowering head’s track the sun’s movement.
August Tabletop
A picnic-style tabletop comes to life with marching red ants, a multi-colored stripe tablecloth, a vintage napkin holder, and a pitcher full of daisies.
August Antiques
Corn, in Minnesota, is considered to be the most delicious in August. I like to serve corn using my vintage corn dishes. The “Shawnee” platter above dates from the mid-4o’s and truly celebrates the lively August corn crop.
